o [Special to the Mail.] Wellington, March 9. A diver went down this afternoon and examined the hulk Eli Whitney, which was run into by the s.s. Taupo. He found a large hole in her side four or five feet long. The Batavia and Singapore Cable is interrupted. Steamers will run about every second day between above places, cany'ng telegrams. What is known as Summet Tunnel on the Rimatuka is pierced from end to end, and its length is 630 yards. This is the last obstacle to completion of railway to Featherston.
