HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE AKAROA MAIL. " John Gilpin was a citizen of credit and renown." Sir, —As a burgess of the Borough of Akaroa I wish to know why the mayor of our town should have assumed the responsibility of electing a Hospital Committee without first consulting the Municipal Council on the subject. Surely the mayor does not tbinkbe has authority to act without consulting the Council. I therefore demand of the Council, whether they sanction the arbitrary act of the mayor, and also wish to know whether the Borough Council are committed by the said act of His Worship thp- Mayor, to support a hospital entirely at the burgesses expence. I trust the Town Council will give some explanation at their first meeting, inasmuch as many citizens are dissatisfied with the arbitrary action of His Worship the Mayor. Yours, &c, "SQUARE AND ABOVE BOARD."
