THE TRUST BOARD ELECTION.
The polling for members to serve for the Borough of Akaroa, Wainui, and Little River districts came off on Friday last, and notwithstanding the apathy manifested by the different candidates, the voters appeared to be more active. Nearly 75 per cent, of the ratepayers recorded their votes in the three districts. In Akaroa, the voting was brisk, and close. From the exertion made in the interests of Mr. Joblin, it was generally believed that he would have headed the poll, as the other candidates, with the exception of Mr. Taylor, or their supporters, displayed little or no interest in the contest. Mr. H. G. Watkins warmly supported the candidature of Mr. Joblin, and his exertion and persuasive powers induced not a few voters to record their votes in that gentleman's favour. Mr. Roberts received a considerable share of support, and his return would have been certain had he not- been indisposed on the polling day. The return of Mr. Dalglish at the head of the poll surprised not a few, as that gentleman's chances were regarded as very remote. Mr. Taylor, although a comparatively new resident in the place, polled well. About half-past stx o'clock, Mr Aylmer, the Returning Officer, announced the following result of the poll for the BOROUGH OF AKAROA. J. Dalglish 43 G. R. Joblin 38 J. F. Roberts 33 R. M. Taylor 28 Messrs H. G. Watkins (on behalf of Mr. Joblin), Dalglish, and Taylor, briefly returned thanks. DISTRICT OF WAINDI. Notwithstanding the out-of-the-way position of the polling booth for this district, a large number of votes were recorded. The Flying Squirrel conveyed a number of voters from the Head of the Bay in the interests of Mr. Shadbolt, and other facilities were afforded to voters to exercise their franchise. The Returning Officer, Mr. Adams, declared the result of the poll as follows
