Statutory Mssrtxct, A statutory meeting of the Alexandra Borough Council was held on Monday evening last, when there were present:—Ors Shaumann (in the chair), Laidlaw, Byan, M'Gregor, Gregg, M'Knight, and Buchanan. The special business of the meeting was to pass the duly-audited balance* sheet of the Borough for the year ending March 31st last After the balance-sheet had been read, it was unanimously adopted, on the motion of Cr Gregg, seconded by Cr M'Knight, that the balance sheet be adopted. ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Council was then held, the same councillors being in attendance. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, Inward correspondence was read and dealt with as follows I——From Messrs Theyers and Son, asking permission to blast rook on their section near the school. On the motion of Cr Gfregg, seconded by Cr M'Knight, it was resolved that' permission be granted on the usual : conditions, Mr H Tohttl's tender for carting 250 loads of gravel was accepted. The tender of Messrs Theyers and Son for the supply of kerosene, &o, for the ensuing year was accepted. The dayman's report was read and received. It was pointed out that the scheme suggested by the committee would not enlarge the floor space of the hall, and en« or two council ors thought the hall should be ex« tended by taking down the baok wall. Others thought this* would mean too great an expense, 1 and, after somefurther discussion, it was* finally reso v d, on the motion of Cr laidlaw, seconded by Cr Buchanan, that alteimJ tive tenders be called for additions to ; the hall—one tender for erection of ' ante-rooms and supper-room, and the other for the erection of these rooms and also altering the present building by extending it lift. The treasurer (Mr F Young) reported tkatt he sum of£l4l 0s 8d had been collected in rates since ]ast meeting. The following accounts' were passed for payment:—£as. Rivers, £2 10* 01; !
