Land for Settlement.
V " Mr J Bennet, ME B, has received the following communication from the Hon Minister of Lands:— " Referring again to your letter of tne 10th ultimo, relative to the subdivision of portion of the Galloway and Moutere runs for close settlement, I have to inform you that a report has been obtained from the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Dunedin, < which shows that the Galloway rnn is held for 21 years from the Ist March 1895, and being in Class I the Government have no power to resume it during the currency of the license. With regard to the Moutere run, a portion of this is now being surveyed for close settlement, and there is also an additional area of about' 1800 acres which it is intended should be included in the licence issued to Mr Jopp, but which he is willing should be excluded from his lease and dealt with at the same time as the first-mentioned area. As Mr Jopp's licence has not yet been issued for the Moutere run, and he is agreeable to the alteration, there is no difficulty in the matter. These proposals also meet the wishes of most of those who are in communication upon the matter. 9
