The river still continues to fall steadily, the height last evening at the Alexandra bridge being about sft 9in above the' nor. mat' mark.
■: The Chicago Dredging Company advertise for an engineer: The Alexandra Lead and Golden Beach dredges are working steadily. Messrs Young, Buchanan and Co. report having sold the Chatto Creek Go's dredge and claim by auction on Saturday last* The lot was knocked down to Mr B. Davis for £SO.
The Undaunted Company (Matakanni) washed up 930z from the boxes for the month of March.
The Monte Christo dredge is being got in readiness to resume operations. The Hartley and Riley dredge had a narrow escape from sinking one day last week, having sprung a leak during the time there was no one on board. A passer-by noticed there was something wrong and gave the alarm. Fortunately, the pontoons were pumped out in time to save the dredge. The Moa dredge is still in the repairers hands.
The Fourteen-mile dredge is being put; in readiness for a start j It is not intended to use the electrical power during the coming season, and the steam plant will be used instead. The coal road; to the dredge is now being put in order.' The old Fourteen-mile dredge, whilst being floated down the river on Monday, struck a snag and sunk at a point near Shingle Creek, and it is feared she will become a total wreck. The dredge was recently sold to a syndicate, who intended to takeher to Waikaia.
