[Br "The Wanderer."] Local owners are beginning to put their steeds into commission. Jack Bamber arrived in Blacks last week, and is to be entrusted with the preparation of Messrs Donnelly Bros' team. Jim Hendry, I understand, is to be associated with Mr W Paul's team, and as Jimmy is a very painstaking and Bteady lad, I think Mr Paul should be able to annex a few good stakes. Billy M'Naught is again associated with Kremlin, and if patience, attention, and industry will get a horse fit —well then, Kremlin should be amongst the van. The Cajolery 3-year-old is also an inmate of the same stable. I understand that Spinner is to be given another preparation. New Zealanders will be anxiously watching the result of the weight-for-age events at Rand wick (Sydney), in which Mr G G Stead's crack mare Cruciform is engaged ; and as she is to meet the Australian wonder, Wakeful, the eyes of all sportsmen throughout the Australian colonies will be eagerly watching the results. —[Since the above was written, Cruciform beat Wakeful by a nose for first place in the Spring Stakes.] Mr W Thurlow* has Phryne, Estelia, and Lapidary in forward condition, but so far has not engaged a trainer. From Dunedin I learn that the trotters True Blue and Onehunga have been shipped to Australia. The re-appointment of Mr D Moran by the Maniototo and Matakanui clubs has given wide-spread satisfaction amongst the goldfields owners. The Alexandra Club mean to leave no sod unturned to make their track one of the finest in New Zealand, and they are to be congratulated on again securing the services of Mr John Paget. A more astute handicapper it would be hard to find in a day's ride—a fact the club fully recognise and appreciate Mr George Logan, the newly-ap pointed Cromwell hindicapper, is highly spoken of in his own district. The American pacer Don Patch, recently equalled the world's record at Columbus, when he paced a half mile in 57|sec. The first quarter was done in 28|sec.
