MINING NEWS.

The mild weather duriug the early Ert of the week, with rain at the ikes, caused a slight rise in the iiver, the sft 3in mark being reached. On Tuesday evening, however, the weather again turned cold, and during yesterday the Molyneux fell about 3| inches, the water last evening being just under the sft mark at the Alexandra bridge. The Manuherikia also rose slightly, but is falling again. The First Chance dredge struck very rich wash on Saturday afternoon last, and so far this week the prospects indicate that the dredge has a good chance of topping the list on Saturday. The gold is being taken off a soft puglike bottom, and is a splendid sample. The dredge is working towards the east side of the river below Coleman's Beach. The Sailor's Bend dredge was obliged to stop on Tuesday owing to the fresh in the river. The Manuherikia dredge again beaded the list last week with the magnificent yield of '6370z odd. It is anticipated the dredge will maintain this satisfactory state of affairs so long as the weather is favorable. The Eureka Co.'s No 2 dredge (late Kelly and Oasey) reached her destina- * on safely yesterday morning. The Alexandra Lead dredge resumed work at midnight on Sunday, after having had a new screen put on. Sluicing operations are proceeding vigorously at the lower end of the Molyneux Hydraulic Go's claim. • The Moa dredge was taken below the bridge on Tuesday, and is being dropped down stream. The Bendigo dredge is working tteadily. The Perseverance No 2 dredge did not wash up last week, owing to having lost a good deal of time in turning round to take a cut up-stream. The No 1 washed up last week for the very satisfactory yield of 53§oz. The Earnscleugh No 3 dredge is •topped at present to allow of a new driver being placed in position. The Earnscleugh No 1 and No 2 dredges are working steadily. j The Monte Christo dredge has been shifted down to the Vincent Extended claim, having failed to find payable wash on the Old Dunstan claim, where she has lately been working. The Ngapara No 3 dredge, Nevis, is expected to resume work about the end of the week, after the winter's vacation. The secretary informs us that the pontoons of the Stafford- Waimea Co's new dredge were successfully launched last Saturday, and it is expected the dredge will be ready for work in about JHX weeks time. DIVIDENDsT The following dividends have been declared during the week:— Manuherikia Dredging Co., 4s per share. Mataa Dredging Co., Is per share. Upper Waipori Dredging Co., Is per share.
