Presentation.
On Tuesday last, Mrs J. J'. O'Kane was waited on at her residence by a few lady friends, when she was the, recipient of a further mark of the esteem in which she is held in the community, the presents taking the form of a silver tureen and entree dish (combined) and an embossed silver jewel casket, each being suitably inscribed.
The presentation was made by His Worship the Mayor (Mr JTas. Kelman), who said he had much pleasure in being present on that occasion, and in asking Mrs O'Kane's acceptance of the presents which had been subscribed by her friends. He hoped that Mrs O'Kane would accept the not for their intrinsic value, but in the spirit in which they were offered, for they wece intended as a, tangible expression of the esteem in which she was held by a large circle of friends in Alexandra. Mr Kelman referred in felicitious terms to the excellent and valuable services rendered in the past by Mrs O'Kane in matters pertaining to music, and to the willingness with which she had always come forward to assist in any function for the amusement of the public or the welfare of local institutions. He was glad that Mrs O'Kane had eome to live amongst them, and he wished herself and husband a long, happy, and prosperous life. He regretted that Mr O'Kane was not present, but' he could say of him, though their acquaintanceship had been comparatively recent, that he would not only make a good husband, but also a good citizen.
In the unavoidable absence of Mr J. J. O'Kane, Mr J. A. O'Kane replied, in becoming terms, on behalf of the recipient.
