Upper Clutha.

(From our own Oorresondent.) It is hardly worth while mentioning about the weather unless to state that, barring a narrow strip along the river from Cromwell up past Quartz Reef Point, the whole of the T district is covered, by a snowy mantle, varying in depth from a couple of inches on Cromwell Flat up to over a foot up Pembroke and Hawea way. As this has been covering the ground for., over a week, your readers can imagine what effect this will have upon cattle *and sheep; and to crown it all, a dense fog, freezing every thing stone-hard, has covered the valley during the past week and is only now showing signs of breaking. Strange to relate, a small distance up the mountain the sun has been throwing its warm rays" during all this week upon the spurs arid gullies, certainly baring a few rocks, but yet unable to, cause any perceptible effect upon the thickly covered tussocks. This may perhaps not prove an unmixed evil; for it will play havoc with rabbits and small birds, and therein lies a promise of plenty summer feed for the diminished herds of the squatter and grazier.
