CZECH PRIESTS WARNED
LETTER WRITTEN BY BISHOPS ' PRAGUE, Feb. 28. Czechoslovakia’s Roman Catholic bishops to-day warned their priests that they would be excommunicated if they accepted Government nominations for church posts without the prior permission of their church superiors. They also forbade priests to take part in discussions with representatives of the Government “until further notice.” A circular letter containing these directions was signed by Archbishop Beran Primate of Czechoslovakia, and 11 bishops. This is the first circular letter signed by Dr. Beran for several months. • Dr. Beran says that he has been “interned” in his palace since last June. ' . .
The letter was written, to Explain to priests the position of Father Jan Dechet, who was recently installed by the Czechoslovak Government as administrator of the Slovak diocese of Banska Bystrica, after Dr. Daniel Briedori, who had been appointed by the Church, was ousted. Father Deche was excommunicated ■by the Vatican.
