, ASHBURTON CLUB The following will represent the Ashburton Bowling Club in the colts’ fours championship on Saturday next: G. Olds (s), J. Glassey, H. J. L. Christie, H. Boston. , Fours Championship Decided The champion fours'competition of the club was decided last evening. E. A. Cockroft (s), H. G. Lowry, J. Wylie and F. R. Brown defeating C. Gowans (s), J. Maxwell, E. Stewart and T. Rowe in the final, 21-20. In the early stages Cockroft’s four had the upper hand, gaining a 7-1 lead, but th'ey fell away over about six heads, enabling their opponents, by steady play, to wipe off the deficit and gain the lead. At the 14th end Gowans led 14-8, but Cockroft, with singles and pairs, gradually reduced the gap. Both skips were playing good bowls, and drew applause for splendidly executed shots. At the completion of the 20th head Gowans led 20-19. When the seconds had played on the final head, Cockroft was lying two shots. Maxwell altered the position, however, shifting the jack to give his skip three shots. Lowry played a splendid botvl with his last, just facing the shot bowl for first counter. Cockroft drew another perfect shot two inches from the jack, and as Gowans dropped short with his last, Cockroft had no need to p]ay his remaining bowl.
