ANOTHER ELECTION SOON
MR MORRISON’S REMARKS (Rec. 1 p.m.) Feb. 27. • Mr Herbert Morrison told the Labour Party jubilee celebrations that they Avould “be wise to prepare for another election sooner ratlfer than later.” Mr Morrison, discussing the election results and Labour prospects said that, subject to the people being Avise and sensible in the meantime, it Avas a fair assumption that the Tories had polled the maximum. The British electorate had a habit of knowing what it wanted and a habit of overdoing getting what it Avanted. He believed the electors wanted Labour back and would “have a chance to think again before the next election, when I hope it Avilll return an adequate Labour working majority and not recreate the extremely difficult situation Avhich nowfaces all parties.” Mr Morrison said the Liberals “have had their go,” and had not done much good for themselves or anyone else. The Conservatives assumed that the Liberals damaged them, ’ but maybe Labour Avas damaged no less than the Tories.
Mr Attlee spent an hour Avith His Majesty to-night going over informal submissions of neAV Government appointments.
