AMBULANCE BRIGADE
EXCELLENT RECORD MAINTAINED ANNUAL MEETING HELD The annual meeting of the Ashburton St. John Ambulance Brigade was held last evening. Superintendent A. Chapman presided. The annual report showed a decrease in the number of injuries treated during the year. The present strength of the brigade is 14, the same as last year. All members have passed the annual re-examination conducted by Dr. W. G. Todd. A course of lectures had been given by Dr. W. R. Ryburn. A' lecture on massage was also given by Mr R. Mountgomery. Dr. N. E. H. Fulton, the divisional surgeon, also gave a talk on “football injuries.” All equipment and stores were reported in good order and available for any emergency. A total of 2036 hours was spent by members on transport duty. This is in addition to practices and other duties. , Dr. Fulton stressed the need for more competition work with brigades outside Ashburton, and it was decided to again approach the Timaru Division regarding competitions. It was also decided that all members take a course in home nursing. The series of lectures on first-aid, given by Dr. Fulton, began last evening. There was a good attendance. Dr. Fulton appealed to all employees of mills and industries where accidents were likely to happen to attend. He quoted several incidents where life could have been saved or suffering relieved had some person with first-aid knowledge been available.
