Fifty competitors in the South Canterbury croquet championships at present being played in Ashburton, were entertained by members of the Methven Club during the week-end. On arrival at Methven the visitors were welcomed by Mrs W. R. Morgan (president of the club). During the afternoon competitions were conducted,
and Mesdames > A. C. Rawlinson and E. A. Mangin ’ (Methven) and Mrs Findlay (Amberley) entertained with items. Afternoon tea was served. On behalf of the visitors Messrs J. Torrance and R. H. Clarke (Dunedin) thanked the club for their hospitality. TO-DAY’S RESULTS Open Championship.—Mrs Bonar beat Mrs Dempsey, 26-19, 21-26, 26-12; Mrs Metcalf beat Mrs Robson by default. Ladies’ Championship. Second round: Mrs McMillan beat Mrs Robson by default. Third round: Mrs Nottle beat Mrs W. H. Kirk, 26-1. Championship Doubles. Third round: Mesdames Clare and Mclnnes beat Mesdames Colquhoun, 26-24; Mrs Nottle and Miss Kirk beat Mesdames Robson and Hooper, 26-16. B Grade Singles.—Second life: Mrs Zohrab beat Mrs A.
