ATOMIC ENGINES FOR PLANES
U.S. TO UNDERTAKE RESEARCH WASHINGTON, February 20. The United States Atomic Energy Commission to-day said that it would soon build a reactor that could lead to the development of atomic engines for aeroplanes. ’’ * The reactor,, for the testing of materials, was expected to cost more than 10,000,000 dollars. It was purely a research ; instrument intended to solve some of the intricate problems now preventing' the use of nuclear energy for driving aeroplanes and for other forms of power.
