MR JUSTICE CORNISH

RETIREMENT BECAUSE OP ILL-HEALTH (P.A.) YVELLINGTON, Feb. 21. The retirement of Mr Justice Cornish from the Supreme Court because of ill-health w r as announced this evening by the Attorney-General (Mr T. C. Webb). He said the filling of the vacancy was under consideration. Mr Webb said he regretted the circumstances compelling Mr Justice Cornish’s resignation, and trusted that relief from the heavy duties inseparable from Supreme Court office would assist Mr Justice Cornish to better health. <

Mr Justice Cornish, who was formerly Solicitor-Geenral, was appointed to the Supreme Court four years ago. He is 10 years under the statutory retiring age.
