ERITREA RIOTS
Moslem v. Christians / • (10.35) ASMARA (Eritrea), Feb. 21. At least 11 were killed and over 50 wounded in riots that spread from Ambaderho, 40 miles from Asmara, to the outskirts of the capital itself.
Killing began a't Ambaderho, when three hand grenades were thrown into a procession of about 4000 Moslems attending the funeral of the Ambaderho stationmaster, who was killed yesterday by Shifta (pro-Ethiopian terrorists). It is believed the Shifta were responsible forthrowing hand grenades. , ' British and' American troops were rushed to aid the police, as counterattacking Moslems, wielding swords and knives, hunted down their assailants.
Terror spread, and, to-night, the Shifta headquarters was attacked, and a Moslem shop set ablaze. Casualties so far reported are three Moslems and eight Christians dead; five Moslems and 45 Christians wounded. The figures are believed to be higher, because the Eritrean Christians refused to/ give up their dead.
