GRAVE RIOTS

HINDU-MOSLEM CLASHES HUNDREDS KILLED (N.Z.P. A.—Copyright) (Rec. 12.5 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 21. Hundreds of persons had been killed in Hindu-Moslem rioting, which raged for 12 days along the east Pakistan-India frontier, said official Indian sources to-day, reports the United Press New Delhi correspondent.

The bodies of 200 victims were cremated during the first day days of rioting in the East Pakistan city <i Dacca, 150 miles north-east of Calcutta.

Pandit Nehru is understood to have sent an urgent message to Liaquat Ali Khan, urging an immediate survey, by ms* Government, of the areas wherein, according to Indian reports, the “massacres” continued.

Mr Nehru said in Parliament to-day that the upheaval of racial hatred in Bengal was “an evil situation which faces us with a great tragedy.” Indian officials said that the riots started on February 10, when Moslems paraded in Dacca, and distributed pamphlets, “printed in bloodcurdled ink,” demanding “revenge on the Hindus.” These informants alleged that the riots were the direct result of incitement by Hading members of the Moslem League. They claimed that the Pakistan authorities did nothing to restrain them.
