SECOND CHRISTCHURCH SALE FINE SORTS UP BY 6d. (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Any fears of recession in wool values were dispelled by the demand at the second Christchurch sale held this morning. With the offering of 31,500 of some of the South Island’s choicest wool, on December values, fine woql rates to-day showed an improvement of at least 6d .per pound. Middle grades of halfbred had the best of a very keen sale and crossbreds were firmer by a good 2d to 3d a pound on the first sale values, and appeared better than late North Island rates. - . :
Early Merino went to 78d with halfbred to 72d, and Corriedale 68|d,,with every prospect that higher prices would be established. The second Christchurch sale draws the best quality entry of the-four city auctions, and this year features choice plains halfbred clips and Merino wool from some high country runs and from Marlborough. Wool from Greta Paddock, the farm of the Prime Minister (the Hon. S. G. Holland) 'was offered early in the sale. His halfbred made to 49d, with crossbred to the good price of 37Jd, some three-quarterbred necks at 393 d, and three-quarterbred fleece at 41i|d. It recalled the days when the former Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) regularly sold his Crystal Brook clip at the second Christchurch Sale.
