RESCUED IN JAVA SEA

INDONESIAN CREW OF WRECKED SHIP SYDNEY, Feb. 16. A remarkable deep-sea rescue was made by the tanker Elise (7900 tons) in the .Java Sea, according to a radio message from her captain. The tanker was on its way from Sumatra to Fremantle when a cry was heard in the darkness. Usuing a searchlight, the tanker’s crew located a crude raft to which clung 12 Indonesians. In spite of a heavy swell the ship manoeuvred into position and lowered a boat, which picked up the cataways. ' The men were the entire crew of a sailing vessel which had foundered three days before. They were exhausted, having had no food for three days, but all are recovering.
