ATHLETES’ MARCH

ENGLISH PARTY FORCED TO DECLINE (Rec. 11.55) SYDNEY, This Day. English athletes and rowers have declined to take part in a march by the Australian Empire Games team through Sydney streets to-day because they do not want to appear pi public improperly dressed. "Our party is in a most embarrassing position,” said the English team manager, Mr J. Beresford. “We have had to decline the invitation to march because we gave our official hatbands and ties to friends in New Zealand as souvenirs. Actually we were delighted at being invited to march.” Flie party will, however, appear at a civic reception given in their honour by the Lord Mayor, Alderman O’Dea.
