ADVANCE.ANNOUNCED BY # MINISTRY LONDON, Feb. 16. Reuter says that the Ministry of Supply has announced that British atomic scientists have developed a “uranium cartridge” which will considerably increase the energy given off by atomic piles. The- new cartridge, which is a cylindrical uranium rod encased in aluminum, can resist 1 a higher temperature than those now used by the Atomic Energy Research Department at Harwell.

The Ministry said that the cartridge would make possible a, considerable increase in the energy available and enable the scope of experimental work to be extended.
