MILFORD HOSTEL

Fire Destroys East Wing (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, This Day. Fir© destroyed the east wing of the Tourist Department’s hostel at the head of Milford, Sound at 2.45 a.m. today. Three are said to be injured, but the extent of the injuries are not, known. An ambulance left Invercargill this morning to establish contact with the hostel, which accommodates 46 people. The east wing where the fire is reported holds 26, and is separated from the rest of the building by a fire break. The extent of the damage is not known. The only information available here is by radio contact between Awarua wireless station and the Postmaster at Milford, who sent out first reports this morning. The Milford Post Office, which was included in the east wing, Avas destroyed, but records, money and fittings inside were rescued from the fire'. The postmaster managed to remove radio equipment from the east wing, and with this called Awarua. Three tourists are believed to have been injured on the fire. They are being taken by ambulance to Invercar* gill hospital, but according to advice received in Wellington, it is understood they are not injured seriously.
