WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
LAURISTOX MEETING The February meeting of the Lauriston Women’s Institute was well attended. As it was the first regular meeting for 1950 the president, Mrs. J. R. Mounsey, extended a welcome to all present, and wished members a happy and successful year. The motto, “Make promises sparingly, keep them faithfully,” was read by Mrs. H. Reesby. The president reported that a parcel had been sent from the Institute to Dorothy Turton (England). If suitable arrangements could be made it was agreed to hold the Institute picnic at the Tinwald Domain on Saturday, February 25. Regret was expressed by members that the institute had lost three members in Mrs J. A. Mackie, Mrs Voice, and Miss L. Letham, through their having left the district. ■ Competitions held resulted as follows:—Bloom, Mrs E. Gallen 1, Mrs W. Lay 2, Mrs A. Goodwin 3; spike, Miss Hayward 1, Mrs W. Lay 2, Mrs A. Goodwin 3; vase of flowers, Miss Hayward 1, Mrs C. Fyfe 2, Mrs Mounsey 3; prettiest butter plate, Mrs C. Fyfe 1, Mrs J. Pluck 2, Mrs Lay and Miss Hayward (equal) 3. A social competition was won by Mrs W. Lay. The hostesses were Mesdames J. G. Marshall and 11. Reesby.
