THE WEATHER.
WARM CONDITIONS TO-DAY. The weather in Ashburton to-day was warm and pleasant, after fairly cool conditions were experienced early in the morning. A moderate northeasterly wind was blowing, and the sky was fairly overcast, although there were intervals of sunshine. The warmest day for two months was experienced on Saturday, when the maximum temperature reached 62.9 degrees. The maximum yesterday was 54.3 degrees. Inside minimum temperatures were 31.8 degrees on Saturday night and 37.2 degrees last night. There was a frost of 6.7 degrees yesterday morning and no frost this morning. A light fall of rain occurred last night, one point being recorded. The barometer at 9 o’clock this morning stood at 29.98 inches, a rise from 29.74 inches yesterday morning. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day. issued the following statement .regarding the weather : General inference: An anti-cyclone is moving off the northern portion of the Dominion, while a rather deep westerly depression is approaching the southern extremity. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: Light to moderate but freshening northerly to north-westerly winds, becoming strong at some inland places. Weather mainly fair at first, but with, rain in western ranges and becoming more general before morning. Temperatures mild. Seas rough north of Ivaikoura, elsewhere slight to moderate.
