BEEF PURCHASES IN THE WAIKATO.
ADVANCE ON IMPERIAL GOVERNMENT'S PRICES. 1 '
There has been recent activity in the purchasing. of cattle, leading to the suggestion that an early revision of the prices paid-to'New-Zealand farmers by I tho Imperial Government'for meat\ is j expected (states a Waikato correspondent). Mr J. A. Young, M.P., has in- i ■toreistod himself in the matter, and on Monday sent to the Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald, Acting-Minister for Industries and Commerce, tho following telegram:—''Can you toll mo how long the arrangements with the Imperial Hoard of Trade for the purchase of meat will oont'inuo at present prices, or what are tho prospects of an early advance in prices? A Wellington party, thropgh local dealers in beef, is quiotly purchasing very large quantities of beef for Wellington at a considerable advance on present Imperial prices. Has any information reached tho Government, to warrant this? If so, I would thank you to ma-ko it public without delay, so that farmers generally, and not a i'ow select speculators, may receive the benefit of , tho increase" Tho Minister-replied as follows: — I "Tie purchase of meat by the Imperial Board of Trade. The Government has beon in communication with tho Imperial Government for several months, but so far hut> received no definite reply in connection with prices for the coming si\'isr»i.
