TIMARU GRAIN MARKET.

; TIMARTJ, September 23. A rather better demand for wheat has beea experienced since last reporting, and a fair quantity has changed ; hands. Prices ruling to-day are:-— 4s 9d to 4s lOd for Tuscan, 5s to 5s la i for Hunters, and 5s 3d to 5s 4d for.;. Velvet, . all delivered. The Arawa, , now loading at Timaru, is taking.: 4000 sacks for Homo ports, and it is . reported that one or two other Homegoing steamers may have a little space available for wheat. A nice line of mixed Hunters and Tuscan was sold yesterday on account of a. local grower , to a southern miller on the basis or prices quoted above, and a particularly.^ choice lino of 1500 sacks of Tuscan found a buyer in the North Island at 5s f.o.b. Wheat is still offering sparingly, and lines of any magnitude are hard to secure. Fowl wheat is meeting a fair demand at 4s 6d to 4s 7d f.0.b., s.i., though . sellers for the most part are asking .4s Bd.

Oat values may be said to have improved in the south by Id to ,2d per bushel. The local market, however, is unaffected, as the greater part of the demand for seed lines has been filled. * V Oaten sheaf chaff is very nracjr weaker, and sales are hard to effect at over 70s per ton, coiintry stations (sacks found by buyers), except in odd cases, where a truck or two of choice quality is offered for local us*., Potatoes are still weak,., and values may be quoted at £7 per ton. There is more disposition on,the part of buyers to operate than there was last week, as the small quantity offering is hardly sufficient to meet tho limited orders coming to hand from the North Island.
