SPREADEGLE

Concert and Dance

A most successful concert and dance was held in 'Air iiydo's wooLshcd on Thursday evening . There was a vecord attendance, and the Lady Liverpool Christmas Giib Fund will bandit to the extent of £17 odd. The programme consisted of songs, musical ites, and recitations, given by the following:—Misses Blake, Hogg, Oorreen, and Evans, and Messrs F. Evans and G. Cieland, the latter giving an original recitation entitled "The Kaiser on a visit to Spreadeagle." Dialogues were given by Miss Stokes and Mr B. Evans, Miss Muriel i Evans and Master Frank Connolly. The school children also gave several songs and recitations reflecting groat credit on their teacher (Miss Sloan). Mr Arthur Norris kept the audience in ripples oi' laughter with his clever impersonation of a "swagger" walking the Spreadoagle district (introducing Komo good local hits). The Sprcadeagle amateurs presented the play "The Shy Young Man," the parts being ably filled by Misses Stokes, Cieland, and Connolly, and Messrs Smithies, Mcfiroy. and Cieland. A -flag presented by Miss Stokes

brought in the handsome sum of £11 odd, and was finally knocked down to Mr W. Smith (Springburn). Other amounts were received from iced cako I (given by Mrs Norris) 22s 6d, bottle of sweets (Mr Buxton) 12s 3d, spring flowers '(Mrs O'Shea) 6s. Opportunity was taken during the [evening .to present Private W. Green (who is on final leave) with a handsome wristlet watch. The presentation was made by Mr F. Evans, who wished Fri- [ vate Green God-speed and a safe return. Private Green suitably responded. Votes of thanks were tendered to the performers, and Mr W. Campbell for the use of piano. The proceedings terminated with the singing of the National Anthem. A dance was then held, the music being supplied by Messrs Green (piano), Campbell (violin), and Norris (mandoline).
