THE DUPLICATE CABLE.
(FSB PBESS ASSOCIATION.; Bydnst, December 25. Mr O'Connor, the PostmasterGeneral, has sent a cable to the New Zealand Government to the effect that the proposal of Sir James Pender, Chairman of the Eastern Extension Pable Company, for the laying of a duplicate cablp between New South Wales and New Zealand had been undei consideration for some time, but th 6 Government could not see their way fa grant a monopoly to a Company ia guaranteeing it against unreasonable competition, Mr O'Connor states that while his Government will welcome a duplicate cable they cannot agree to the toirmß of the Cable Company,
