ASHBURTON LIVE STOCK MAAKET
MR D. THOMAS. Mr D. Thomas (late Matson Cox and C 0.,) reports upon the Live . Stock Market for the Ashburton district, for the week ending August 20th, as follows:— On Tuesday at the Asliburton Yards I held my usual weekly sale of sheep, cattle and pigsi The total entry for the day consisted of 5768 sheep, 14 cattle and 21 pigs of which I had for sale 3548 sheep and 1 cattle. The attendance was a moderate one, and competition was dull for most lines, and sellers had m several instances to submit to a reduction m the.r ideas of values. I cleared the whole of my entry with the exception of three small lines of merino ewes, which were m excess of demand being m poor condition, and a scarcity of feed only made the demand worse than it otherwise would have been. The following were the prices realised: — For fat crossbred ewes and wethers 13 s 5d to 1333 d; crossbred ewes" with lamb at foot 13s lod; imall crossbred hoggets m poor condition 6s to 6s 2d j merino ewes m lamb 4s 4d to.4S 8d ; m cattle, spripger, £$,
