STORM T HONG KONG
[PBB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] Thursday Island. June 18. Particulars of the storm at Hong Kong on May 19th show that tho effects i were most disastrous. The damage is estimated at a million dollars. All business and the shipping traffic wero stopped. The lower" parts of the town were deluged and turned into an immense lake. The loss of life was considerable, and though the exact number is not known, it will probably be not Icsb than fifty, A shed composed chiefly of matting was struck by lightning, and eight of its occupants were killed. Some idea of the nature of the storm may be gathered from the fact that m five hours 24in of rain fell. The total rainfall m three days was 4 3 m.
