Londou, April 17. Good combing wool command prices 10 per cent above those obtained at the \ February sales. Fineßt qualities have advanced as much! 12£ per cent. Up to date 178,000 bales have been catalogued, and 4700 withdrawn. m London. April 18 New Zealand frozen mutton is unchanged. Beef, hind quarters, 4|d per lb ; forequarters, 3|d to4d per lb. New Zealand butter by the Tainui and Kaikoura realised 69s per cwt. The cheese shipped by the latter brought 46s to 52s per cwt. America takes 4000 bales of wool at the present auctions,
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received the following cable message from their London office, under date 17th April :— * Wool— Since the opening of the sales superior greasy, superior combing, washed, scoured, crossbred coarse greaßy, have advanced to Id per lb. Medium and inferior greasy has advanced £d per lb, other descriptions unchanged, but market very firm. Up to date 1 52,000 bales have been sold.
Melbourne, April 19. Wheat is quieter at 5s 86* to 5s 9d ; New Zealand barley, to arrive, has been gold at 5s 8d to 5s lOd.

The " Sydney Morning Herald " says {he unnecessary holding back of New Zea land grain is not the best policy. If persisted m it will lead Sydney buyers to look to San Francisco, and even India, for supplies, m which case New Zealand will have competition to face later on that will be very prejudicial to her interests. (Received April 20, 1 24 p m.) London, April 19.
The Bank of England weekly returns show the total reserve m notes and bullion to be £13,956,000 . The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 40| per cent. Consols 981, quiet ; New Zealand fonr per cents 108|, active. Australian wheat is quoted at 39s 9d, with a weaker market, New Zealand 9d less, market also weaker. For Australian new crop on passage buyers offer 86s 6d ; 2Sew Zealand on passage averages 84s 9,j Wolled sheepßkins show a slight rise.
