ASH BURTON BAPTIST CHURCH ANNIVERSARY TEA MEETING.

The above took plaoe yesterday In the Oddfellow's Hall and passed off In a very suooesafnl manner, the tea provided by the ladles being sat down to at 5 p.m., tbe tables being crowded for the first sitting, atri a very large number of visitors having to wait till the earlier ones had been ■applied at the very sumptuously laden tables. The tea was provided by Mesdames KlDgston, senr and junr, Oolyer, Sawle, Giles, Oass and Good, and Misses Sawle, (2), H. Kingston, the bachelors table being ornamented with a supposed bride oake which, however, was found to contain surprise packets, as those who invested In the affair aoon found out, this oaaslog gnat amusement at the time. After the tea tables were cleared, the Hall quickly crowded again and the after meeting took plaop, Mr J, W. Sawle, tbs pastor of the Ohurcb, being m the obair. the platform being occupied by several Intending speakerß,and an efficient oholr, nnder the leadership of Mr W. Kingston, the organ being skilfully handled by Mr W. Smith.

The tea meeting wis opened by prayer bj Rev A. North, the oholr thtn giving "Redeemed " followed by the reading of the annual report on the Church and Sunday Sohool, by the Secretary, Mr Oolyer. Addresses were then given by Bevdißoothroyd, Barrows, A. North, of Dunedln, O*ptain Thompson, and Afeain Jefooat and Sawle, interspersed with anthems anh cborusos by tbe oholr, MUe JBawle also slngtai; a street and appropriate ■010, Mfi W. Kingston and Miss Clara Steele a pretty daett, and MUb Kingston »«010, with fall chorus. The whole annlversiry passed off la a very pleasant and aaooessfnl manner and at the conclnslon of the meetlDg the asaal votes of thanks were passed by aoolamatlon. and the benediction by the Chairman bronght to a olose certainly the beat lotree and gathering the Baptist Ohuroh has hid m Ashburtoo.
