The sut joined, from the "Melbourne Argus " ot the lltb Inat, throws some light on the alleged capability of San Franolsoo to orowd New Zealand out of .the Sydney market so much dwelt upon by some writers on the aubjeot, and certainly does not bear out their contention. The. paper referred to (an exoellent authority) says :— " Our cable message ooaoornloK wbeat shows an advanoe of 6 J por quarter for Australbn, ex warahoaeo, corresponding with the advaaos of 6d per quarter to Englich annonnoed two days ago. In the local market there Is a B eadUr tone, but a fair bueioesa waa done this mornloy at 6b 4d. Beyond this prloe nothing has yet bean done. Cable advloea frcm San Franci3oO represent that there are no handy-sized vessels ootainab'.e .for wheit cargoes to Australia, the minimum tonnage offarlng being 2,000. The Sydney millers hesitate at operating to largely m one bottom, but this reluctaj^ae tends to strengthen the purely local position."
