There was a great rush for Government seotlons thrown open this week, In all about 25,000 acres were offered In various parts of the province of which some 13,000 were taken up. The pick of the land was tbe Horowhenua blook of 3,700 aores on the Msmwatu line, the only land wbion the Government had left between here and the Manawatu river. The Boil is good and tbe position advantageous and consequently there was enormous competition. Of 63 seotlona all but 15 were Immediately applied for and these will go m a day or two. For the 48 seotions there were no less than 470 applicants. The other blcoka were offered principally to ease the rush on Horowhenua selections and it was not expected they would be all taken ap. The eagerness of settlers to Beoure smill holdings is considered a very healthy sign.
