ASHBURTON HIGH SCHOOL
» A mee'iog of the High School Board was, held on Wednesday, the 23rd, at the County Couccil office. Present : Messrs W. 0. Walker (Chairman), Q Jameson, Orr, and D, Thomas. Correspondence from Mr Burr, of Maronan, was considered. The Secretary was instructed to reply. Leases were ordered to be signed by the Chairman. The Secretary reported that some of the tenants were s!ight»y is arrears It was o-dored that the Secretary be empowered to employ the Board's Solicitor to request payment when default ia made m prompt payment Ihe balance-Bh et for 1888 waa snbmitted. Toe outstanding aohool fees representing but a email amount were orde ed to be collected before the beginn ng of the new term The master of the boys' school applied for help m his work, whioh was now beyond the task of one man's strength. The Board authorised Mr Buchanan to employ a junior assistant for the present term and ordered the matter to be brought up for fuller consideration at a meeting to be held next month. After routine business had been transacted the Board adjourned.
