GREAT FIRE AT APIA.
• 4 (P3R PBKBH AHSOOIATXtwr. ) Auoklakd, Jiauary 21. Tho gunboat Blber reports tbat on the 9 h Inst a disastrous fire broke out m the township at Apia. Nine l*rgn hoaees (residences and stores of Europeans) and fi'teen smaller dwellings were consumed, Among the buildings destroyed were the residences of Dr Kaapp, German Consul ; Bohnoldt, Vioe Consul ; the Hamburg Hotel, and two houses belonging to Gracemere, ao English trader. The Royalist, Nlpsio, and three German war Tassels, the Blber, Ailer, and Olga, sent parties of blue jackets ashore, to asilst the townspeople. The fire, however, burnt with vigor throughout tho lOst, and was not finally smothered till the evening of that day, The origin Is believed to be accidental . It Is supposed to nave been oaused by the upsetting of a kerosene lamp by a Chinese servant of one of the white residents. The amount of damage done has not yet been estimated.
