Secretary Bayard, has been informed that the Americans at Samoa have been released. He thinks the situation has been exaggerated, and that it will turn out that there has been no infringement of international rights. Auckland, January 21. The statements made In a cablegram from Washington, alleging that a German warship at Samoa bnrned American fljgs, imprisoned American subjects and fired al the Captain and Lieutenant of a British man of-war, were read to an officer of thf filber to-day, and were oharaoterised &t absolute untruths. The officer pointed outthat the Blber left Samoa on the 12th, and that it was Impossible that later newt could be received at San Franolsco. He said the officers of the various warshlpi were the best of friends. The only boal they fired on was a Kanaka boat carrying ammnnitlon, and she had no fltg.
