LEAP YEAR.
The privilege accorded to the ladies of " popping the question " at bissextile periods is perhaps not very frequently availed of, but one young lady m this distriot has determined not to let leap year pass away without taking advantage of an opportunity which will not recur until three more years hava been completed. She has accordingly addressed to her swain, who resides m Ashburton, the following rhyming epistle, which, if not of very high poetio order, is at least sufficiently explicit. We suppress names of oourse : — 'Tis Leap Year, bo you must exouse The liberty I'm taking, And 'tis my hope you'll not refuse The offer I am making. They say you've quite made up your mind To disregard the fair, Oh 1 pray do not be bo unkind And leave me m despair. How can you lead the horrid life A baohelor'a must be ; Pray take unto yourself a wife And let that wife be vie. — U— MMMMMM__H— — M— Ml— MM
