A very euddm doith occurred lust night. Mr Alex. Livingstone-, Chief Postmaster, had loft his office shortly after five o'clock, aud had been out for a walk to a friend's house, and when returning got as far as the gate of his private rebidence, when lie dropped down. Assistance was procured, and he was taken inside, but ho diad m twenty minutes. Ho was Chief Postmaster here for the post two and a half years, and at oae time held a commiyaion m the Fronoh army. He had eeen active seivioe ia Algeria, and waa a native of Pun's, hia father holding high office m the French army. Dooaased was one of the boat musicians m tho colony. He was a prominent mamber of the Wairau Lodga of Freemasons, He bad been m ill health for a considerable time past, being troated for a compTio ition of diseases, and no inquest is deemod necessary.
