MURDER AND ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
(PKE PRBSB ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, December 14. At about- tf n o'olook this evanlng an old man named Michael MoDermott, shot a Woman n*med Pate .-son, and then fired twice at himself. The man lives by him* self m a oottage io Swanson street, where he was vlaited to-night by Mrs Patterson, who has known hiai for years. MoDermott slates that the woman ommenced to tease him ; she, on her part, denies thiß, and say that she asked him to shout, and MoDermott put his hand underneath the pillow of bis bed, to get as she thought, some money. He produced a revolver and fired at her, striking bet m the left ribs. He then inflicted two wounds on himself, one m the right ear, and the other under the left eye. The man and woman have been taken to the Hospital. Auckland, December 15. Mrs PattereOD, who was shot by MoDermott last night, died m the Hospital -at 3.20 this morning. The murderer Is not expected to recover, Ou MoDermott being asked why he shot himself aaid : "Beoause that woman Kate Kennedy is tempting me and robbing me, and has been at me this four or five years." He added " I shot her loo; I discharged three shots, two at myself and one at her." The revolver found m his hand wat slx-ohambered, three empty and three loaded with bullets
