[PBR FKSBB ABBOOIATION.] Blenheim, December 14. The libel action, J. J\ Robinson v the Nelaon "Evening Mail," was commenced at thfl Supreme Ooart this afternoon bofore Mr Justice Rlohraond and a speoial jury of twelve. A large number of witatiesss were called for the plaintiff, and three for tho defendants. The alleged libel was contained In the " Msll's" roport of the Nelson Eduoatlon Board of November 7tb, when Meaere Harkoeßß and Harstboase m*de certain remarks m regard (it was supposed) t < the supervisor who con* daoted the Nelson scholarships oxamlnatlo'n In Bieaheitn. Me Pitt, of NeUoo, appeared for defendants. Mr MoNab for plaintiff His Honor cammed ap »t some length, and decided that the remarks made by mnmbera of the Education Boards were not privileged, and if newspapers published them they did bo at their own risk The case exolted Intense Interest m town, and the Court was densely packed. Tho jary retired a 9.25 and returned at 11.10 p.m. with a vi-rdiot f,ir plaintiff, and £100 damages. The Judge awarded ooata on the lowest I sosle.
