CLAIMING DAMAGES.
ThobßDay Island. Dt'oombsr 3. News from the East, per the 8.1. Company's steamer, states that Townsend, agent (or j the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank at Manilla, was arrested by the Spanish authorities forsystematic evasion of the stamp regulations. The charges were subsequently withdrawn. Townsend is now claiming damages, m which course he is being strongly supported by the British Consul.
