He is frrorably lmsreised5 reised with the charaoter of *be fields at labaklpawa. He found that half of tbe claims only htd reached bottom at the creek, the depth being about 30ft ; but at Waikakaho net more than 3 per cent, had succeeded m bottoming During bis visit to Mahakipawa he was shown a good many parcels of gold, and bis opinion is that a larger quantity of the creoloas metal has beea obtained than is Imagined by people living outside * the field. Mr Rlobardson was astonished at the diffiooltiei. In tbe way of those who have taken up alluvial claims either at Mabaklpawa or Walkakabo. He Is convinced that it would have been to the advantage of these people if many of them bad combined and formed large companies. Owing to the great quantity of water which has to be contended with Bad the immense number of stones, many ot them exceedingly Urge, which require to be stsoked up In the narrow guloh, tbe labor of the miners on both fields is very .considerable, and the hon. geDtfemao'a opinion is that neither Mabaklpawa nor Walkakaho is a poor man's diggings.
