(Per Press Association.; Auckland, September 7. Dr Campbell, of Warkwnrth, committed suicide by taking chloroform. He waa last seea alive at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, when under the irfluenoe of drink. He waa found dying at 2 p.m. on Thursday. A bottle which had oontalned po'aon was found on tbe table of the room along with the following note : — " Warkw*rth, September sth, 1.18 a.m. This la to certify that James Campbell, M.D., of Warkwortb, did on or within four hours of the above time die. Tha oiuse of death w» a broken heart, canoed by inability to re slit the damned glass I should, therefore, advise the jury to state at onoe, " died .because he was a fool post mortem unnecessary." Jam?b Campbell, M.D. There is *n addendum to tbe letter as follows : " I should like Professor Halford of Melbourne to have my betd if anyone will send it to him. P. S In earnest If I should be found dead, I have died from chloroform administered by self, ao do not m%ke any fuss about me; Deceased ctme to Wark worth from Westport, and it ii not known here if be has friends m the colony. An inquest was held yesterday and a verdict was* returned of suicide while m an unsound state of mind, produoed by excessive drinking.
