THE LABOR TROUBLES
(PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION;) Sydney, August 23. It is believed that the Maritime Labor Council will take up a neutral position m respect to the miners' dispute. (Reoelved August 24, 1.15 p.m.) Sydney, August 24 Sir Henry Parkes, m addressing a meeting at Singleton, regretted that there appeared to be every chance of a strike among the coal miners, and he expressed the opinion that the error lay as much with the masters as the men. The former he considered had acted unwisely and without tact or discrimination and should have taken every step to prevent the strikes, consistent with integrity. The labor difficulties afforded splendid evidence that men m the colonies were m a much better position than their fellow workmen m other parts of the world, when they could afford on such trifling pretences to set up defiance to capital.
