REJECTION BY THE UNITED STATES,
EXCITEMENT IN THE SENATE. [BT 4LXOTBXG TELMBAPH — COPYKIOHTj (Pan Pbms Association.) (Received August 24, 11 15 pm ) Washington, August 22. Great excitement prevailed m the Senate when it was announced that the Fisheries Treaty was rejected by a majority of three. Senator Morgan m a speech delivered immediately after the result of the division was known «aid that if England acted toward the United States m a similar manner the litter power would have taken it as a direct challenge of war. It is expected that further trouble will arise between Canada and the United States m consequence of the rejection of the treaty. A section of the Press adopt a warlike tone. (Rtoelrtd Auguit 24, 1.15 p m.) Mr Bayard, Secretary for State, professes not to be disappointed at the reception of the Fisheries Treaty, and states America will now revert to the treaty of i3iß as a modus vivendt.
