■' ' ♦ [PBB FRESB ASSOCIATION.] Alleged Fire Raising. AUCKLAND, AugDßt 24. Yesterday evening a woman nam\ed Mrs A. Mahoney was arrested on a charge of letting fire to a house m Parnell. The woman and her husband own a cottaga that baa been unoccupied for some time, M they were both living at Waikomltl. Mn Mahoney came down to town the day before yesterday, and stayed with a neighbor, Yesterday afternoon a man noticed something wrong In the cottage, •nd on breaking m found a heap of blazing rags saturated with kerosene lying on the mantelpieoa. The building had caught fire, but the df soovery was made m time to prevent serious damage being done. The oottage was insured for £100, •nd mortgaged for the same sum. Mrs Mahoney was bronght up at the Police Court to-day, obarged with arson, and remanded for a week. Application Befused. A farther motion was before the Supreme Court to-day with regard to Fen wick, the alleged lunatic now m the Aiylum, who has property. Justice Gillies, In refusing the application, said if the lunatic Authorities bad properly understood bts previous decision thoy would «t onoe hare liberated Fenwlck, whose detention was now Illegal.
