Cooper 3*o ved for a return showing which of the city oe suburban uuhools have since the beginning of the year being closed on eohool days. He asked whether the Board had any knowledge of the faot that some of the eohoola m thia distrlot were closed on certain days when their i attendance was below the strict working average, m order to enable the teachers | to avoid taking count on those daya. He had been informed that this had been done, and if the statement were true Government were being defrauded. The Chairman (Mr Upton) said the Board bad no knowledge of the fact. It was agreed to prepare the return mentioned by Mr Oooper.

A, writ of habeas corpus was applied for by his counsel on the ground that the warrant of commitment did not state whioh gaol, there being two gaols m Wellington. The prisoner was discharged on the ground that the warrant did not specify the gaol.
